Rich in history and tradition, Sylhet town also has geographic importance. The center of Sylhet town, which runs along the banks of the river Surma, can be rejuvenated by turning it into a chain of public spaces. The riverbank, the old jail complex and other open spaces can be made vibrant with the help of parks, lakes, gardens and civic complexes. The streams (chhoras) cutting across the town can be organized as ecological spines, as well as nature trails. Plan also considers two ring roads linking a series of public and civic spaces.
